Solving a Supernova Mystery with Flipbook Mathematics Mathematics is the language of the universe. Use the process of mathematical modeling to describe phenomena in the world and to solve the mysteries of the universe. In this session, participants will start with the simple scenario of analyzing motion in a flipbook to practice the process of mathematical modeling. Then, applying similar strategies to realworld data, participants will solve the more complex task of aging a supernova and solving a centuriesold mystery. Finally, participants will discuss mathematical modeling as a tool for incorporating ALL eight of the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice into the classroom. Free NASA materials!
