Mozilla Webmaker - Create an App
The Hour of Code campaign is December 8-14, and Hive Learning
Networks and Webmaker are signed on as partners.

Hive Labs have put together a fun activity on Webmaker. It's a step-by-
step tutorial for creating a weather web app that helps you decide
what to wear based on the forecast. The app can run on your phone
or the web, and involves some basic Javascript functions, HTML and CSS.

Snow boots or T-shirts? Create an app for your phone or the web
using local weather data to help you decide what to wear. It's a
"choose-your-own-adventure" approach to beginner Javascript,
computational thinking and app development. The interactive tutorial
walks you through each step -- no prior coding or app development
experience necessary!

Chicago Teen Literary Festival: Meeting of the Minds -
Planning Meeting
Teen Literary Festival is slated for Spring 2016. We envision this festival
to be a convening of all things youth and literary, bringing together
young writers of all literary genres and communities from across the
city for a dynamic experience inclusive of teen-lead workshops, book
fair and book swap, panels, performances, and more. This festival is
being coordinated in partnership with Chicago Public Library,
the Center for College Access and Success, UIC Department of Ed,
and the Poetry Foundation.

To begin the journey of creating such an event, we are hosting a
"meeting of the minds" to begin to understand what this festival can
look like, what considerations need to be made in developing a large-
scale event, and other items that draw on the knowledge, expertise,
and enthusiasm of those who have experience in planning city festivals,
who have worked with young people around writing, members of the
literary communities, and anyone else who may share an interest and
excitement around a youth-centered literary festival.

Center for College Access and Success, 770 N. Halsted, Chicago, IL
Tuesday, December 2, 2014 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
